Police – Amotekun Face Off : Nine Officers Seriously Injured, Hospitalized In Ondo As G3,Ak 47 Guns Used Freely
It was a tense situation and unimaginable altercation between operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and men of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday afternoon following a disagreement over the custody of a suspect linked to a stolen motorcycle.
According to one of the injured officers of the Corps said a complainant had visited their office to report a missing motorcycle.
Acting swiftly, the operatives retrieved both the stolen motorcycle and the suspect allegedly involved in the theft.
shortly after the arrest, police officers arrived and reportedly demanded that the suspect be released into their custody.
According to the hospitalized officer who managed to talk to our reporter said Amotekun Corps declined the request, stating they would only release the suspect at their headquarters.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the Amotekun office, where further disagreements ensued.
But surprisingly, they mobilised their men and stormed the Amotekun office, injuring many of our personnel in an attempt to forcibly retrieve the suspect.
Meanwhile the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ayanlade Olushola alleging that Amotekun operatives beat the suspect to a stupor, prompting police intervention.
However, the police PRO said the incident was a misunderstanding between both parties concerning the treatment of the suspect, who they claim was beaten to the point of coma by Amotekun personnel.
He added, that the incident occurred at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Akure.
“We stepped in to ensure justice is served,” he said.
“Upon getting there, they refused to release the suspect, which eventually led to the altercation.
“I can assure you that the issue has now been resolved amicably.”
It was gathered that the arrest of one Tosin Adebisi, an 18yr old suspect triggered the unwarranted attitude of the men of Nigeria police which was said to have motivated by what one could not ascertained.
However, over 50 tear gas and empty AK 47 shells, and G 3 guns were used on Amotekun corps officers where a lady, head of operation officer was brutally injured on her head.
Germane reporter gathered that, no fewer than nine of the Corps officers were mercilessly wounded and hospitalized.
Meanwhile, the complainant of the suspect, Rev Bola Ariyo, of Living Word Missionary Baptist Church, who initially reported to the corps that, the suspect, and his gang has been terrorizing the area along Power line Ijoka which according to the suspect, had been reporting to the police with no efforts until the suspect was arrested eventually and detailed.
Phones and walkie talkies of the men of Amotekun corps officers were said to have been seized and damaged by the Police Officers.
Amotekun Corps Officers met on ground said, they only obeyed the order that they should not retaliate if not many casualties would have been recorded because it was said that the police shot the officers but the bullets could not penetrate
