Consensus Plan Collapses in Ondo as APC Aspirants, Lawmakers Reject State List — Abuja Aligns with Aspirants Showing Interest in Competitive Primaries By Paul Joseph A high-stakes stakeholders’ meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC convened to forge a consensus among party leaders in Ondo State has collapsed, throwing the candidate selection process for the upcoming legislative elections into uncertainty. The meeting, held under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, aimed to streamline the emergence of candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly through a consensus arrangement. Our source confirmed that the APC in Ondo State had invited 10 representatives from each Local Government Area (LGA) to deliberate and agree on a unified list of candidates. Sources who spoke with our correspondent alleged that the 10 representatives invited from various local governments were leaders of the party loyal to the favoured and adopte...

Fasoranti, Pause and Reflect: Ondo Central Deserves Continuity, Not Disruption

Image
Fasoranti, Pause and Reflect: Ondo Central Deserves Continuity, Not Disruption BY ADEWOLE AYODEJI (Major Dee) I write as a concerned citizen of Akure, someone who has lived and worked both in Akure and Abuja, and who understands the inner workings of the National Assembly. I also write on behalf of critical stakeholders in Ondo Central who are fully aware of the implications of losing legislative continuity at the federal level. It is from this position of experience and responsibility that I feel compelled to speak at this crucial moment. Politics, at its best, is a careful and deliberate search for the most effective representation of the people. It should not be reduced to a contest driven by impulses, personal loyalties, or rushed alignments that ignore performance, continuity, and public trust. In Ondo Central Senatorial District, this principle is especially important at this moment. The district already has a sitting senator, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, widely known as “Omo Ek...

In demonstration of our unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, we recently installed a billboard in Akure boldly declaring our commitment to the Renewed Hope 2027 platform. This was a voluntary, peaceful, and lawful expression of our democratic right to support a candidate we believe in. We are young people who believe in the vision of Asiwaju. We did not wait to be mobilised, paid, or directed. We acted from conviction. It is therefore with deep concern and disappointment that we report that agents of the Ondo State government h...

FAIR REPRESENTATION FOR ALL: Akoko’s Political Imbalance, The Case for Zoning the House of Reps to Isowopo

Image
FAIR REPRESENTATION FOR ALL: Akoko’s Political Imbalance, The Case for Zoning the House of Reps to Isowopo The current political arrangement in Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West calls for balance, fairness, and inclusiveness. Ikare in Akoko North-East already occupies the Senate seat, while Akoko North-West holds two strategic ministerial positions—Minister for Interior and Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. This clearly shows that some parts of the constituency are already well represented at the highest levels of governance. However, Isowopo 1 and 2 remain largely excluded from key political structures and leadership opportunities. This imbalance weakens unity and limits the spread of grassroots development across the constituency. For equity, justice, and sustainable progress, the House of Representatives seat should be zoned to Isowopo. Every community deserves a voice, and no single bloc should dominate both the Senate and the House of Representativ...

REJOINDER: Equity Is Not Ignorance — Setting The Record Straight On Ondo South Senatorial Zoning

Image
REJOINDER: EQUITY IS NOT IGNORANCE — SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL ZONING - Just Because Something Is Constitutional Does Not Make It Equitable I have read the Lekekeke Volunteer Media response to my earlier piece. I thank them for their attention, even though their submission regrettably chose insults over issues. Let me state upfront: I hold Hon. Dr. Isaac Kekemeke in high regard. My intervention was never an attack on his competence. It was a principled stand on equity, balance, and democratic inclusion in Ondo South. Since Lekekeke Volunteer Media avoided facts and resorted to name-calling, permit me to restate the real issues for the public. 1. I Never Claimed It Is “Unconstitutional”   Lekekeke Volunteer Media built a strawman. Nowhere did I argue that it is unconstitutional for a Governor and Senator to come from the same LGA. The Constitution is silent on zoning. My point is political, not legal: Just because something is constitutional does not ...

Restoring Equity & Honoring Rotation in Akoko Federal Constituency... Why Hon. Olakusibe Morakinyo Obayan Stands Out

Image
Restoring Equity & Honoring Rotation in Akoko Federal Constituency: Why Hon. Olakusibe Morakinyo Obayan Stands Out THE ROTATIONAL AGREEMENT & CURRENT IMBALANCE ♦ A rotational understanding between Akoko North East & North West was established to ensure fair, inclusive representation. ♦ Akoko North West has held the House of Representatives seat for nearly 8 years, exceeding the agreed 4-year rotation. ♦ Akoko North West currently holds two ministerial positions (Interior & Finance) and the senatorial seat — a heavy concentration of power. ♦ Communities in Isowopo 1 & 2 (largely Akoko North East) remain without meaningful federal-level representation. ♦ In 2023, Akoko North East showed political maturity by supporting Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO) — an act of goodwill, not weakness. WHY RESTORATION IS NOW A MORAL IMPERATIVE ♦ The imbalance affects development, resource allocation, and the sense of belonging among constituents. ♦ Restoring the rotational agreement is not...

WHEN CIVIL SERVANTS ACT LIKE STREET TOUTS: Ministry of Finance Coffin Saga must Attract Harsh Sanctions

Image
WHEN CIVIL SERVANTS ACT LIKE STREET TOUTS: MINISTRY OF FINANCE COFFIN SAGA MUST ATTRACT HARSH SANCTIONS Discipline Must Return to the Service—Mock Funerals Are Not Protest, They Are Misconduct Nigerians cannot stop amusing the internet, and the law must not stop taking its course on them. The former Minister of Finance was fired yesterday — less than 24 hours later, his obsequies rented the internet today. A living man declared dead. What a barbaric action from Ministry of Finance staff, all because of the former Minister’s stance while in office. Must Ministry of Finance staff wish him dead?  I have realized that such reactions in Nigeria ministries often occur when leader blocks shady deals or prevents the misappropriation of funds.  The report that a coffin bearing the picture of Mr. Wale Edun was brought into the Federal Ministry of Finance, followed by staged wailing from staff, is a new low for the Nigerian civil service. This is not activism. This is not culture. This i...

ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL SEAT: One Local Government Cannot Hold Governor, Party National Vice-Chair, and Senator

Image
ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL SEAT: One Local Government Cannot Hold Governor, Party National Vice-Chair, and Senator  — Consensus Is Not the Problem; Imposition Is In the interest of equity, fairness, and democratic balance within Ondo South Senatorial District, the following position is submitted for the consideration of party leaders, stakeholders, and the general public: A genuine consensus arrangement can promote party unity, reduce cost, and ensure strategic coordination. But once a decision is imposed from above without proper consultation, transparency, and broad acceptance, what is called “consensus” is no longer consensus at all. Consensus without equity is imposition in disguise. The Facts Are Clear: The Governor, H.E. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is from Ilaje. The APC National Vice Chairman, South West, is from the same Ilaje/Ese-Odo axis. To now zone the Senate seat to the same zone is not consensus — it is monopoly. Democracy is about equity and spread, not concentration of power in on...

The Lawmaker Who Went to Abuja and Did Not Forget Home

Image
The Lawmaker Who Went to Abuja and Did Not Forget Home There is a particular kind of politician that Nigerians have grown quietly accustomed to. He arrives at the National Assembly with grand promises, disappears into the machinery of power, and resurfaces only when another election is near. Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, the man representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, appears to be a different kind entirely. Three bills. A highway in the national budget. Hundreds of jobs. Schools renovated. Farmers fed. Students sent to law school. Transformers installed in communities that had waited years for stable electricity. And still, by his own account, the work is not finished. As the conversations around 2027 grow louder across Nigeria's political landscape, the question being asked in Ondo Central is not merely whether Adegbonmire deserves another term. The question, more urgently, is what happens if the work stops midway. Adegbonmire came to the Senate in 20...

Terrorist/Bandit Reintegration Is a Ruse-Nigerians Demand Instant Justice

Image
Terrorist/Bandit Reintegration Is a Ruse-Nigerians Demand Instant Justice We Did Not Bury Our Dead to Clap for Their Killers Not quite a week ago, the Nigerian government reintegrated 700 so-called “repentant” terrorists and bandits into society with fanfare. Photos, handshakes, and speeches. Meanwhile, the graves of their victims are still fresh. Nigerians, in our entirety, reject this sham You cannot ask a nation to forgive what it has not been allowed to grieve. You cannot preach “reintegration” to widows, orphans, and displaced farmers while the blood on the ground has not dried. The same villages these men burned are still without schools, without clinics, without security. Yet the killers get stipends, skills training, and state protection. This is not peace. This is provocation. The Billion-Naira Question: Where Is the Money Going? The Federal Government voted ₦1.4 billion in 2026 for “Boko Haram terrorists’ trial.” Last year, 2025, it was ₦530 million. This money was meant for ...
