Nigerian highlife musician dies;




Veteran Highlife musician, Mike Ejeagha has died at the age of 95.







He died on Friday evening around 8 p.m. at 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after being ill for a long time.



Ejeagha, who was well known for using Igbo proverbs and folktales in his songs, made a lasting mark in Nigeria’s music industry.


He gained fame in the 1980s when his unique style of storytelling through music captured the hearts of many across the country.


His music was not just entertainment—it carried the weight of tradition, passing on lessons from one generation to the next.


Through his songs, he kept the Igbo language and culture alive, especially during a time when modern sounds were starting to take over.


Many people who grew up listening to his music remember the way he blended calm rhythms with deep meanings.


Even younger audiences who discovered his songs much later could feel the wisdom in his lyrics.


His songs were more than just melodies; they told stories, taught morals, and reminded people of their roots.


Before his death, Ejeagha had been out of the spotlight for years due to his health.


Despite being away from public life, his legacy stayed strong.


People continued to play his music at events, family gatherings, and on the radio.
