FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We Shall Not Be Silenced: Our Support for Asiwaju Is Unconditional
We, the members of Akure Youth 4 BTO, wish to draw the attention of the general public, well-meaning Nigerians, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to a disturbing development that has unfolded in Akure, Ondo State.
In demonstration of our unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, we recently installed a billboard in Akure boldly declaring our commitment to the Renewed Hope 2027 platform.
This was a voluntary, peaceful, and lawful expression of our democratic right to support a candidate we believe in.
We are young people who believe in the vision of Asiwaju. We did not wait to be mobilised, paid, or directed. We acted from conviction.
It is therefore with deep concern and disappointment that we report that agents of the Ondo State government have moved to threaten us and demand the removal of this billboard.
No lawful order has been presented to us. No violation of any regulation has been cited. What has been communicated to us, in words that leave little room for misinterpretation, is that certain interests within the state apparatus are uncomfortable with our display of support for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
This raises a question we will not shy away from asking in public. If we are all working together, as we are repeatedly told, for the emergence and re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, then who exactly are these state agents working for?
What agenda is served by silencing young people who are voluntarily and enthusiastically amplifying the Renewed Hope message? What kind of unity suppresses its own supporters?
We wish to state clearly and without equivocation that we will not remove this billboard. We have broken no law. We have harmed no person.
We have done nothing more than exercise our constitutional right to free expression in support of a President we believe is delivering for Nigeria.
Any attempt to forcibly remove our billboard or intimidate our members will be resisted through every lawful means available to us, and we will ensure that such actions receive the full attention of the national media, the APC national leadership, and the Presidency.
We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take note that his most organic supporters, the young people who believe in his vision without being asked, are being harassed in Ondo State in his name.
We call on the APC national leadership to investigate the conduct of those using state apparatus to suppress legitimate pro-Tinubu expression. And we call on all lovers of democracy to stand with us.
Akure belongs to those who built it, and its walls will carry the message of Renewed Hope.
Signed,
Directorate Of Media,
