STATE OF EMERGENCY WASN'T MY PLAN – Wike Opens Up
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has expressed dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike said he would have preferred the outright removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara instead.
Last month, the president suspended the governor, his deputy, and all state lawmakers for six months, citing political instability and recent security threats, including pipeline explosions.
Wike, who has been at odds with Fubara since he took office, said the president acted to prevent chaos but insisted the governor had already lost control.
The crisis has also affected the state assembly, with 27 suspended lawmakers defecting to the APC and the emergence of parallel legislative leadership.
