Reviving Akure Greatness: Prince Abiodun Derin Adesida Reaffirm Commitment to Youth, Women and Community Development


Hon. (Prince) Abiodun Derin Adesida has expressed a renewed desire to work alongside like-minded individuals committed to the growth and development of Akure. Emphasizing his deep passion for the city and especially the empowerment of its youth, Prince Adesida reaffirmed his dedication to creating opportunities for young people both within and outside Akure.



“My foremost concern is the development of Akure. I welcome partners who can offer kind and quality advice for the progress of our constituency,” he said in a recent statement.


A direct descendant of Akure’s royal lineage, Prince Adesida’s roots run deep. His grandfather, Oba Afunbiowo Adesida I, and his uncle, Oba Adebobajo Adesida IV, both served as revered monarchs. His grandmother, Olori Oyife Adesida, was the daughter of Lisa Ototuleowo, while his mother hailed from the lineage of Chief Osogbon Olowe of Araromi, a trusted divinator of Oba Afunbiowo.


Having grown up in the palace during the late 1950s and early 1960s, Prince Adesida recalls witnessing the tail end of Oba Afunbiowo’s reign and the early years of Oba Ademuwagun Adesida II. These experiences instilled in him a deep-seated commitment to the progress of Akure, a vision he says was first championed by his grandfather, who played a pivotal role in establishing Akure as a Provincial Headquarters.


“I’m not in this (politics) for personal gain,” Prince Adesida emphasized. “I’ve been blessed financially, with a supportive family. My wife is a medical doctor specializing in Neonatology in the United States, and my children are graduates from top institutions, including Columbia University.”


Prince Adesida seeks to give back to the community that raised him—Akure North and Akure South Federal Constituency—by leveraging his wide network and experience. Despite his connections in both political and business circles, he remains guided by the values of humility and service instilled by his royal upbringing.


“I am not a ‘do or die’ politician. I believe firmly in divine ordination. If it is God’s will, He will lead me further. But I know I have given my best.”
