The Senator Representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN attended the public hearing held at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in respect of the Bill for the upgrading of Federal College of Agriculture Akure (FECA) to a full fledged University of Agriculture sponsored by Hon. Derin Adesida, Member Representing Akure North and South Federal Constituency.
It would be recalled that Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN had on October 8,2024, led the Bill for second reading on the floor of the Nigerian Senate, which enjoyed full support of other senators.
Adegbonmire noted that there are only six Federal Universities of Agriculture in the country which is not enough to train, educate and equip students with the relevant skills required to ensure that the country is self sufficient in food production.
The Senator believes that upgrading the college will help the nation to reduce its unemployment, increase food security, and equip its students with the skills required to be self-reliant through agriculture.
Adegbonmire who is the chairman senate committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters added that the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure which was established in 1957 with a land mass of 1,061 Acres, if upgraded to a full fledged university has all the facilities necessary for it smooth take off.
The establishment of the university at it's present site will therefore, be less cumbersome and require little or no financial burden on the government.
