As I grow older I’m realising the power of silence. You really don’t have to over-explain yourself, beg, overshare etc to gain respect and love. You simply say your piece and leave it at that.
There’s so much power in not giving a reaction to everything.
Not everyone who’s quiet is shy, some of us were just surviving environments where being loud got you ignored.
In my years of entrepreneurship world and meeting people, I’ve observed that silence can be a powerful tool, yet many of us find it difficult to embrace. We’re often in such a rush to fill the void in conversations, to prove we know what we're talking about, or to be liked. But here’s the thing-sometimes, saying less actually says more.
Whether it’s in negotiations, meetings, or personal discussions, staying quiet can help you gain control, gather more information, or simply give others the space to process. You don’t always need to have the last word. A thoughtful pause not only shows confidence but can also make the other person reflect more on their own words.
The noise of social media and constant opinions around us often pressures us to always be heard. But ask yourself: do you really need to speak in every situation? So, next time you’re in a discussion, try letting the quiet work for you. You’ll be surprised how much you can achieve by simply staying silent.
Silence sharpens the blade; speak when it’s time to strike.
