IMPORTANCE OF THE BILL TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE COLLEGE




The proposed amendment to the Federal Universities of Agriculture Act to establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Akure, Ondo State, represents a transformative step toward educational, agricultural, and economic development in the region.


To the Community:

 1. Access to Quality Education: Establishing the Federal University of Agriculture in Akure will provide increased access to quality tertiary education in agriculture and related disciplines for the people of Ondo State and neighboring communities.


 2. Economic Empowerment: The presence of a federal university will stimulate the local economy through job creation, increased commerce, and infrastructural development. Local businesses, artisans, and service providers will benefit from the influx of students, staff, and researchers.


 3. Agricultural Advancement: As an agricultural hub, the university will serve as a catalyst for modern farming techniques, agribusiness innovation, and food security initiatives. It will empower farmers through extension services, research partnerships, and capacity building programs.


 4. Youth Engagement and Development: By focusing on agriculture, the university will reorient youth interest toward agripreneurship and agro-technology, helping to reduce unemployment and youth restiveness in the region.


 5. Regional Development: Akure and its environs will witness accelerated development in infrastructure, healthcare, and social services due to federal presence and increased public & private partnerships.


To the College (and the Broader Academic Community):

 1. Specialization and Innovation: As a dedicated institution for agricultural sciences, the university will foster innovation in areas such as sustainable farming, agro-processing, biotechnology, and environmental conservation.
