Commissioned Solar Panels at Adedeji Ultra Modern Market, Oja Oba Market, and Odokoyi Market


On Thursday, Hon. Gbenga Timothy Fasua, the esteemed Chairman of Akure South Local Government and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Ondo State, proudly commissioned the installation of solar panels at three key markets: Adedeji Ultra Modern Market, Oja Oba Market, and Odokoyi Market.












This initiative, dubbed “Operation Light Up Akure Market,” aims to enhance the trading environment in these bustling markets by providing clean, renewable energy to power lights and other essential facilities. The initiative is expected to extend operating hours for vendors and shoppers while also improving safety and security after dark.


In his address, Hon. Fasua emphasized the transformative impact of sustainable energy and expressed his commitment to creating a more vibrant and economically viable atmosphere for local traders. "It’s time to bring light to our markets!" he declared, stressing the importance of supporting local businesses and fostering a community that thrives around the clock. He also stated that this initiative would expand to all markets within Akure.


Mrs. Tawio Omolafe, representing the market women, expressed her sincere gratitude to the chairman for his dedication to fulfilling his electoral promises. She passionately highlighted the need for continued support in introducing modern conveniences and infrastructure to enhance the marketplace experience for both vendors and customers. She emphasized specific areas for improvement, such as the installation of adequate sanitation facilities and the renovation of the market, which would significantly elevate working conditions for market women and create a more welcoming environment for shoppers.


With the successful commissioning of these solar panels, Akure South is making significant strides towards embracing renewable energy and enhancing the quality of life for its residents and market participants. This initiative stands as a testament to the local government's dedication to innovation and progress in the region.
