ALL STAKEHOLDERS IN THE NIGERIA PROJECT. 












Fellow Nigerians and Esteemed Leaders, 


As we commemorate Democracy day today, a day hallowed by the sacrifice of countless patriots and champions of freedom, I write to you not just as the coordinator of a group but as a concerned Nigerian, deeply invested in the future of our beloved country. 


This day marks the remembrance of courage - the boldness of ordinary citizens who demanded that their votes count, their voices heard and their rights respected. It is a reminder of the enduring struggle of heroes like M. K. O Abiola whose victory in the june 12 1993 election symbolized the will of the people, but whose mandate was tragically annulled. 


Today 32 years later, we are called to reflect not only on how far we have come, but more importantly on where we are going. 


THE SPIRIT OF DEMOCRACY MUST NOT DIE. 


Democracy is not merely the holding of elections, it is the consistent application of equity, transparency, accountability and justice. It is not enough to vote every elections year; what happens between elections defines the true strength of our democratic values. 







Yet, many Nigerians feel disconnected from the promises of democracy. The rule of law is often selectively applied, while the vote of the ordinary citizen is drowned out by the noise of political self interest. THIS MUST CHANGE. 


GOOD GOVERNANCE MUST TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER POLITICAL GAMESMANSHIP. 


Today, millions of Nigerians battle with poverty, insecurity, inflation, unemployment and a crumbling public infrastructure. Our institutions are weakened by corruption and bureaucratic inertia. 


I urge the government to prioritize people - centered governance. Deliver on the basics; quality education, health care, power, roads and jobs. Make campaign promises a reality. 


STRENGTHEN OUR ELECTORAL AND JUDICIAL INSTITUTIONS. 


Free and fair elections remain the bedrock of democracy, the manipulation of electoral processes, voters intimidation and the lack of independence of our Judiciary is a threat to our national cohesion. 


We call for the strengthening of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the full implementation of electoral reforms and the insulation of courts from Political interference. 


YOUTH AND WOMEN INCLUSION IS NON NEGOTIABLE. 


Nigerian youths are not to be referred to as the leaders of tomorrow but should be made the leaders of today. We must create platforms for genuine participation not tokenism. The women also should be given space not only in campaign rallies but at the table of decision making. 


A CALL FOR NATIONAL UNITY AND PEACE. 


Nigeria belongs to all of us - North and South, Christian, Muslim and traditionalist, old and young, rich and poor. Our diversity should be our strength. We must resist every attempt to divide us along ethnic or religious lines for political gains. 


Let this Democracy day serve as a RENEWED CALL TO PATRIOTISM, to responsibility and to shared sacrifice for a better Nigeria. 


IN CONCLUSION 


To those in power, democracy is a trust not a throne, it is a SACRED DUTY not a license to dominate. We commend the positive strides of Mr President to build physical infrastructures and institution all over the country. However, building human infrastructure should be prioritized: creation of jobs and employment, availability of provable social security, access to unfettered financial capitals, and raising the standard of living of average Nigerians 


The Nigerian people are watching, recording and remembering the words and deeds of those entrusted with the authority of these social contracts. 


We, the PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS remain committed to pushing for a new, right and beneficial democratic culture - One that truly reflects the values of participation, justice, equity and inclusion.
