Following the National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance held at the National Assembly today, I had the privilege of paying a courtesy visit to Hon. Baba Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), a distinguished Commissioner representing the Judiciary at the Police Service Commission (PSC) headquarters in Abuja earlier this evening.


The visit, steeped in respect for Baba Galumje’s decades of service to Nigeria, was an opportunity to engage in a heartfelt and inspiring conversation about life, leadership, and the responsibilities young Nigerians must embrace to achieve greatness.


The warm reception at the PSC headquarters, with its serene ambiance and the weight of its mandate to oversee police accountability, set the tone for a deeply impactful exchange.


Our discussion centered on the values of hard work, commitment, dedication, and resilience—qualities Baba Galumje emphasized as non-negotiable for any young person aspiring to lead and succeed.


Drawing from Baba vast experience as a retired Supreme Court Justice and his current role at the PSC, he shared personal anecdotes of perseverance, underscoring that leadership is not a title bestowed but a journey earned through consistent effort and sacrifice. “As a young man, if you want to be a leader, you must start now,” he advised, his voice carrying the gravitas of someone who has lived these principles. “Resilience is your foundation; it shows in how you handle challenges and stay true to your purpose.” 


Baba words resonated deeply, a reminder of the discipline required to navigate life’s complexities in a country like Nigeria, where opportunities often come through tenacity.


Baba Galumje’s counsel took a particularly poignant turn when he spoke about service as the cornerstone of greatness. “You must serve people before you can become what you want,” he said, leaning forward with conviction. “Greatness comes from lifting others, from understanding your struggles, and from being a solution.” This advice, delivered with the sincerity of a mentor invested in the future of Nigeria’s youth, felt like a call to action.


The visit, though brief, left an indelible mark, reinforcing the importance of purposeful living and the role of mentorship in shaping the next generation of leaders.


As I left the PSC headquarters, I carried with me not just the wisdom of a revered elder but a renewed sense of responsibility to serve and lead with integrity.
