Akure Solidarity Movement (ASM) Ignites New Wave of Political Engagement








In a bold and spirited move to reignite the political consciousness of Akure South, the Akure Solidarity Movement (ASM) was officially reborn on August 12, 2025. This historic gathering, held amidst enthusiasm and unity, brought together a wide array of political leaders, including Chairmen and Secretaries of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), members of local government executive councils, special assistants to the governor, former councillors, supervisors, and grassroots politicians from Wards 1 to 11 in Akure South Local Government.


United under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), participants reaffirmed their commitment to the party and to the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State.


The Akure Solidarity Movement was originally established in the build-up to the 2016 APC gubernatorial primary election, which produced the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN as the party’s flag bearer and eventual Governor of Ondo State.


At that time, ASM served as a veritable platform for committed APC members across Akure South, offering a united front to strengthen the party and promote grassroots inclusion.


Today, nearly a decade later, the movement has been reborn with renewed energy and clarity of purpose—to advance the ideals of the APC and support the government of Governor Ayedatiwa at all levels.


The philosophy of the rebirthed ASM is rooted in its identity as a socio-cultural and political movement—not just a support group.

The members are committed to backing the APC across all tiers of governance while also taking special interest in the preservation and promotion of Akure South’s rich socio-cultural and political heritage.


The group aims to enhance the local government’s economic and political development by encouraging broader participation in politics and governance, particularly by indigenous sons and daughters of Akure.


The movement reiterated its unwavering support for Governor Ayedatiwa and his leadership mantra—E.A.S.E.—which embodies his principles of good governance, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.


Beyond political loyalty, the ASM is also focused on the character and competence of those who will represent the people of Akure at all levels of governance and within the party.


The movement is determined to raise the bar of leadership by supporting individuals who reflect the values and aspirations of the community. As part of its renewed mission, the group also called for greater unity within Akure politics and positioned itself as a rallying point for all progressive-minded individuals in the region.


The relaunch event was graced by several notable figures and political leaders, including Hon Ifedayo Adewole chairman of the group, Barr kayode Taiwo Samson LLM chairman Akure East LCDA ODA and secretary of the group and hon Temidayo Akinsulu PRO. Other leaders and members that are present included Hon. Ranti Fakinlede, Akinsurin Temidayo, Ayodele Ajayi, Hon. Adeolu Adegbonmire, Hon. (Mrs.) Oluranti Ogundipe, Falusi Fasan, Jimoh Abu, Alhaja F.I. Gidado, Hon. Kikiowo Abiodun, Hon. Adesida Adetayo, Olalusi Rotimi, Faleye Sunday, Hon. Tayo Dada, Hon. Abey Ajisegiri, Hon. Isaiah Oluyi, and Fisayo Omoniyi. Their presence, alongside other committed party stakeholders, underscored the broad-based support the movement enjoys across all wards of Akure South.


The rebirth of the Akure Solidarity Movement is not just a political moment—it is a reaffirmation of unity, purpose, and the enduring hope for a greater Akure.


With the full backing of the APC family and the visionary leadership of Governor Ayedatiwa, the ASM is set to drive meaningful change, strengthen party structures, and serve as a beacon of progress for generations to come. Akure has spoken with one voice—the movement is alive, the vision is clear, and the future is bright.
