NUJ NASS CHAPEL CHAIRMAN MOURNS PASSING OF GENERAL ABDULLAHI MUHAMMAD (Rtd)
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), National Assembly (NASS) Chapel, Comrade Abdulkadir Sarafadeen, Msc, has expressed profound grief over the death of General Abdullahi Muhammad (Rtd), a revered elder statesman, at the age of 86.
General Muhammad distinguished service to Nigeria included significant roles such as Chief of Staff to two former Presidents (Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar'adua), former National Security Adviser (NSA), Pioneer Director General of the National Security Organisation (NSO), and former Military Governor of Bendel and Benue-Plateau States.
Comrade Sarafadeen described the loss of the patriotic leader and pillar of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progress Union (IEDPU) and Kwara State as a "dark chapter in the annals of the Nation and monumental loss" to Kwara and the Ilorin Emirate in particular.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, by his Personal Assistant, FUSEH MARKUS [JOHNFUSEH], the NUJ NASS Chapel Chairman eulogized General Muhammad life, highlighting his distinguished military career and impactful post-retirement services.
Comrade Sarafadeen lauded the late General as a "testament to a life rooted in patriotism, excellence, resilience and Integrity," citing his numerous roles, including the founding of the defunct Atoto Press Ltd Ilorin.
Comrade Sarafadeen noted that the passing of the legendary soldier, revered Kwaran, and illustrious son of the Emirate has created a "big leadership gap" in the country.
Comrade Abdulkadir Sarafadeen extended his deepest condolences to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Rasak, CON, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, the Military community, the bereaved family, and the entire people of the Ilorin Emirate.
He concluded with a prayer, beseeching Almighty Allah to grant the late General Muhammad the finest abode in Al-Jannah Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and bestow his loved ones with the courage and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
