Dr. Bala Usman gave this assurance during an engagement meeting aimed at identifying areas of support for effective service delivery by the PSC.
Dr. Bala emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is committed to reviewing the Commission's mandate and ensuring its operational independence. "We will de-bottleneck the problems and we will have a PSC that stands alone and not an attachment of any Ministry," she stated, noting that the visit was primarily to strengthen collaboration with the Ministry of Police Affairs and clarify the PSC's pivotal role in achieving the presidential goal of strengthening national security.
The leadership of the Police Service Commission expressed gratitude for the presidential intervention but highlighted critical challenges hindering its effectiveness.
The Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), thanked the visitors and revealed that the Commission is currently grappling with the dual issues of inadequate funding and persistent, "surreptitious attempts to hijack its mandate." His remarks underscore the urgency of the presidential delegation’s mission to ensure the Commission’s autonomy and operational capacity are fully restored as envisioned by the Constitution.
Justice Paul Adamu Galumje Rt, Jsc, a prominent figure in the Commission's leadership ( Honorable commissioner representing the judiciary), also extended his appreciation to the presidential team.
Hon. Justice Paul Galumje reiterated the PSC's commitment to national security, assuring the delegation that with the necessary support and operational freedom, the Police Service Commission is prepared to "do much better for securities of this country." The engagement marks a significant step towards reinforcing institutional integrity and effective governance within Nigeria’s security architecture.
