SENATE APPROVES ADEGBONMIRE’S MOTION FOR ODE-OMIFUFU-OFOSU ROAD 


–A Win for Ondo-Edo Agrarian Economy 



Senate Passes Adegbonmire Motion for the Construction of Ode- Omifufu- Ofosu Road 


The Nigerian Senate yesterday unanimously passed the motion on the construction of Ode- Omifufu- Ofosu Road moved by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN, Senator Representing Ondo Central.


Adegbonmire while presenting the motion on the floor of the senate said there is urgent need for the construction of Ode- Omifufu- Ofosu Road in Idanre LGA of Ondo State to link the State with Edo State. 


The federal lawmaker noted that Idanre LGA of Ondo State is historically renowned as one of the major producing regions in Nigeria, contributing immensely to the agricultural output, industrial base and foreign exchange earnings to the nation since colonial era. 


Adegbonmire who is the chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters added that Idanre LGA is blessed with vast arable land and industrious farming communities, and has over the decades sustained the cocoa value chain serving as a critical source of livelihoods for thousands of farmers, traders and allied agro- industries, yet suffers from glaring infrastructural neglects in road connectivity.


Adegbonmire stressed that Ode- Omifufu- Ofosu Road traverses several agrarian communities in Idanre LGA and equally provides the most direct and economically viable route linking Ondo State with Edo State and South - South corridor of Nigeria there by making it strategically for the evacuation of agricultural produce especially cocoa,  palm produce, plantain and timber. 


The senate therefore resolves that Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to as a matter of utmost national importance to include the construction of the road in the 2026 capital budget and ensure prompt commencement of the project.
