AYM Appeals to Ondo State Government to Expedite Resumption of Ongoing Road Projects Across Akure

 MEDIA RELEASE:

AYM Appeals to Ondo State Government to Expedite Resumption of Ongoing Road Projects Across Akure

The Akure Youth Media (AYM) respectfully calls on the Ondo State Government to facilitate the immediate resumption and completion of ongoing road construction projects across Akure, particularly critical routes such as the Ijoka Road, Oke-Aro axis, and other strategic roads currently under rehabilitation.

Over the past months, these projects have raised expectations among residents who welcomed them as vital interventions to improve mobility, safety, and economic activity within Akure metropolis. However, the noticeable slowdown and absence of contractors at several sites have continued to pose serious challenges to commuters, residents, traders, and motorists who depend on these roads daily.

AYM notes that prolonged abandonment of road projects exposes residents to avoidable risks, including traffic congestion, road accidents, flooding during rainfall, damage to vehicles, and disruption of commercial activities. For traders, artisans, students, and workers, these delays translate into lost time, increased transportation costs, and economic hardship.

The Ijoka Road, Oke-Aro corridor, and other affected areas are among Akure’s busiest routes, linking residential communities, markets, schools, and business districts. Completing these projects promptly will not only ease daily movement but also enhance the city’s aesthetics, boost local commerce, and restore public confidence in governance.

Also, we urged the government to implement measures to wet the ground of the ongoing road projects as the dust is too much and causing some hazards.

Akure Youth Media acknowledges the efforts of the Ondo State Government in initiating these projects and recognises the importance of infrastructural development to urban growth. We, however, strongly appeal that contractors be mobilised back to site without further delay, with clear timelines communicated to the public to ensure transparency and accountability.

AYM believes that timely completion of these road projects will significantly improve the quality of life of Akure residents and reaffirm the government’s commitment to people-oriented development. We urge all relevant ministries, agencies, and contractors to work collaboratively in delivering these projects for the benefit of the people.

The youths of Akure remain hopeful and committed to constructive engagement, trusting that this appeal will receive the urgent attention it deserves.
