GOV AIYEDATIWA REITERATES COMMITMENT TO CHILDREN'S WELFARE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATIONAL CENTRES IN ONDO STATE







The Ondo State Government under the leadership of Governor  Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reiterated his commitment to ensuring strict monitoring of schools across the state to guarantee the proper care, safety, and welfare of underage children through its social welfare and development services.


The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, stated this while reacting to reports of negligence and non-compliance by some school proprietors with existing state regulations on the adequate care of children, particularly toddlers and pupils in early childhood education centres.


According to the Commissioner, His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa prioritized the welfare of children, stressing that no school would be allowed to operate outside approved guidelines meant to protect young learners.


She noted that the ministry would intensify routine inspections and welfare assessments in both public and private schools to ensure standards are upheld.


Dr. Osamaye further emphasized that schools with kindergarten or crèche facilities must employ qualified caregivers, adding that teachers should not be overburdened with caregiving responsibilities alongside teaching duties.


She encouraged parents to report cases of neglect, overcrowding, or poor welfare practices to the relevant authorities.


Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has also expressed concern over the growing disregard for early childhood care standards by some school operators in the state.


Prof. Ajibefun noted that early childhood education forms the foundation of a child’s academic and social development, stressing that strict adherence to government policies is non-negotiable.


He added that schools operating kindergarten and nursery classes must meet the required standards in staffing, facilities, and child-to-caregiver ratios, warning that approval could be withdrawn from defaulting institutions.


The Education Commissioner further urged school proprietors to see compliance not as a burden but as a responsibility to society, assuring that the government remains committed to creating a safe and conducive learning environment for every child in Ondo State.


They both made this call as part of collaborative efforts by The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Ministry of Education, Science and technology to curb maltreatment of school  children.
