A Grave Dereliction of Duty by Ondo State’s Chief Law Officer

It is deeply concerning that the Chief Law Officer of Ondo State—who serves as the Attorney General, Commissioner for Justice, and the Governor’s Chief Legal Adviser—allowed his principal to pursue a frivolous appeal challenging his eligibility for re-election.

This appeal, which effectively amounts to an unconstitutional third-term bid, is not only vexatious but also a blatant misuse of Ondo State’s resources. Such conduct is unbecoming of an Attorney General.

Equally troubling is his complicity in enabling the Governor—who holds dual roles as the state’s Chief Security Officer and leader of the APC in Ondo State—to willfully defy a court order by conducting a party congress in violation of a subsisting injunction. This was not merely reckless; it was illegal and provocative.

In any society governed by the rule of law, the Attorney General should have resigned voluntarily, out of respect for the sanctity of his office and the legal breaches he facilitated. Instead, his actions risk further judicial repercussions, potentially destabilizing the state.

A word is enough for the wise.
