Why Nigeria Must Elect Ability Over Allegiance, Performance Over Party

Nigeria stands at a crossroads carved by time. 2027 is not merely another election year. It is an emergency exit from the endless loop of excuses, a decisive door to destiny. The ballot will ring again, but this time, wisdom must ring louder than worship of party symbols.

The age of “5 over 5” is over. The era of chanting “Party is Supreme” while communities suffer is finished. That slogan has served its season. Party is a platform, not a prison. Party is a vehicle, not the destination. When the vehicle is faulty, the flag on its bonnet cannot fix the fault. When the captain is clueless, the colour of the ship cannot calm the storm.

We have paid the price, yet pocketed no prize. We have been pained, yet produced no progress. We have applauded anthems while our children lacked access to learning. We have defended logos while our hospitals lacked life-saving logistics. We cannot continue to sit in the river while using saliva to wash our face. The irony is insulting, and the injury is intolerable.

We are no longer blind. We see. We know. We now clamour for the best among the rest. Not for gladiators who grandstand, but for guardians who get results. Not for politicians who are mean to the electorate, but for mentors who mean well for the masses. Not for merchants of empty promises, but for managers of measurable progress.

2027 must mark a migration from mantra to merit, from sentiment to substance, from slogans to solutions. We need leaders with proven pedigree, practical plans, and a pulse for the people. Leaders who will change our story to higher glory. Leaders whose hands build bridges, not barriers. Leaders whose hearts beat for the hood, not just for their home.

Competence must conquer campaigns. Capacity must carry the day. Character must crown the contest. A candidate’s colour cannot compensate for his crudeness. A party’s popularity cannot patch a person’s poor performance. To elect incompetence because of “Party is Supreme” is to embrace affliction because of affection. That formula has failed us for decades.

Youth of Nigeria, this is your moment to mend the mistakes of the past. Let no one cajole you with cassava and coins. Let no one cloud your judgment with choreography and chants. Look critically at all the gladiators across all political parties. Examine their antecedents. Audit their actions. Assess their ability. Then elect the best, not the badge.

Avoid party sentiment. Embrace competence. Reject rhetoric. Reward results. For when we vote capacity, we vote continuity of progress. When we vote character, we vote cure for our common curse.

Delta, Nigeria deserves development, not drama. Our future is fragile, and only firm, focused, and faithful hands can forge it.

2027: Beyond party. Beyond pain. Beyond promises.  

2027: For people. For purpose. For performance.

The people have paid enough. Now let the people pick the prize.
