HON. MINISTER OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LAUNCHES YOUTH IN AGRIBUSINESS LAND TRUST FUND, TARGETS 6 MILLION YOUTHS




Akure Youth Media (AYM) has commended the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, on the official launch of the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YiALTF), a landmark initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians through agriculture, entrepreneurship, and economic development.


The initiative, unveiled by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, is designed to connect young people with opportunities across the agricultural value chain while addressing critical challenges such as access to land, training, finance, technology, and markets. AYM describes the programme as a bold and strategic intervention capable of transforming the agricultural sector into a major source of employment and wealth creation for Nigerian youths.


Speaking at the launch, the Minister emphasized that the programme extends beyond land access and is fundamentally focused on job creation, food security, entrepreneurship, and building a more prosperous future for young Nigerians. As part of the initiative, Youth Development Centres across the country will be transformed into Agriculture Hubs where young people will receive training, mentorship, technological support, business development services, and access to market opportunities.


AYM notes that the programme has set ambitious targets to train six million young Nigerians over the next three years while supporting at least 500,000 youth-led agribusiness enterprises across various agricultural value chains. The organisation further applauded the Ministry for providing financial support to selected young agripreneurs during the launch, describing the gesture as a practical demonstration of government’s commitment to youth empowerment.


The media platform also praised the Ministry for fostering strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), FCMB, First Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Bank of Agriculture, development partners, financial institutions, and private sector organisations. According to AYM, such collaborations are essential to ensuring the sustainability and long-term success of youth-focused agricultural programmes.


AYM believes that the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and represents a significant step toward empowering young people to become active contributors to national food security, economic growth, and sustainable development.


The organisation commended Comrade Ayodele Olawande for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian youths, expressing confidence that the initiative will unlock new possibilities for millions of young people across the country.
