SOLDIER KILLS AMOTEKUN OFFICER IN OSUN ATTACK

A shocking and tragic incident occurred in Ijeda, Ijesa land, Osun State, where a 35-year-old operative of the Osun State Amotekun Corps, identified as Officer Peter Samuel Tope, was brutally attacked and killed by a soldier.

Sources revealed that the identity of the killer soldier has been confirmed as Opejobi Fiyinfoluwa, following prompt investigations.

The disturbing event, described by witnesses and officials as unprovoked, took place at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, drawing widespread condemnation and raising serious concerns over inter-agency relations and public safety.

According to a statement issued by the Corps Commander, Dr. Isaac Omoyele, the assailant believed to be a recent recruit into the Nigerian Army approached the Amotekun base in Ijebu-Jesa, dressed in full military camouflage, and reportedly expressed violent intentions toward Amotekun personnel.

Witnesses claimed the soldier openly declared that part of his reason for joining the military was to “deal decisively” with members of the local security outfit.

Shortly afterward, while Officer Tope was riding a motorcycle in the area, the soldier and a group of unidentified accomplices allegedly ambushed him. They stopped him forcibly and launched a savage assault, striking him repeatedly on the head with a blunt object.

The vicious attack, which reportedly lasted for up to 20 minutes without intervention, left Officer Tope unconscious and bleeding profusely by the roadside.

After the assault, the suspects fled the scene using a commercial motorcycle.

Fellow Amotekun operatives promptly responded to the incident, rushing the severely wounded officer to Wesley Hospital in Ilesa in a desperate attempt to save his life.

The Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Jesa was immediately notified, and a formal report was submitted to Lt. Col. Yunusa Isyaku of the Nigerian Army Engineering Cantonment in Ede.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Officer Tope sadly succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning, plunging his family, colleagues, and community into mourning.

The incident has ignited widespread outrage across Ijesa land and beyond, with community members and civil society groups calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice.

The unprovoked nature of the attack and the apparent animosity expressed by the suspect have fueled fears of possible breakdowns in cooperation among security agencies operating in the state.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the killing, with calls for the Nigerian Army to cooperate fully in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that justice is served.

The Osun Amotekun Corps has vowed to pursue the case to its logical conclusion while urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
