TARABA FEDERAL COMMISSIONER IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY URGES SWIFT COMPLETION OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SERVICE COMMISSION COMPLEX

Earlier today in Abuja – Hon. Aminu Malle, PhD, the Commissioner representing Taraba State and the Northeast in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), joined the House Committee on Public Service Matters, led by its Chairman, Hon. Dr. Engr. Sani Bala, for an oversight visit to the Commission on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.


The visit, held at the Commission’s conference room in Abuja, aimed to assess the progress of ongoing projects and address critical operational challenges.


Hon. Malle, a steadfast advocate for the Northeast, emphasized the urgent need to resolve lingering issues, particularly the completion of the NASC’s permanent office complex, to enhance service delivery for the Commission and its staff.


The session commenced at 1:07 p.m. with an opening prayer by the Committee’s Deputy Chairman, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the late Titus Apollos, a senior NASC staff member.


Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, the Executive Chairman of the NASC, delivered a welcome address, expressing gratitude for the Committee’s visit while highlighting pressing challenges, including inadequate office accommodation and staff welfare concerns.


Dr. Enyiekere appealed for the Committee’s intervention to expedite the completion of the NASC’s permanent office complex, noting that delays were not due to funding issues but rather inefficiencies by contractors. He also disclosed that the Commission had spent millions of naira on medical bills for staff since the inauguration of the 6th Commission, underscoring their commitment to employee welfare despite operational constraints.


In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Sani Bala, Chairman of the House Committee, expressed condolences for the loss of the NASC staff member and assured the Commission that the Committee was actively reviewing the NASC Act pension bill to address pertinent issues.


He expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in completing the NASC’s permanent office complex, describing the contractors’ lackadaisical attitude as unacceptable.


Dr. Bala directed the Commission to issue a formal letter to the contractors, setting a November 2025 deadline for project completion, failing which the contract would be revoked.


He further committed to briefing the Speaker of the House on the matter to ensure swift action, emphasizing that appropriated funds must translate into tangible results for the Commission.

The oversight visit concluded with robust discussions, including an executive session called by Hon. David to deliberate on sensitive matters, excluding staff and the press.


Committee members raised concerns about special allowances and sought clarification on their allocation.


Hon. Malle, in alignment with the Committee’s directives, reiterated the need for accountability and efficiency in the Commission’s operations.


The visit underscored the Committee’s resolve to address longstanding infrastructural and welfare challenges, with Hon. Malle pledging continued advocacy for the Northeast and the Commission’s overall progress.


The Committee’s observations and the Commission’s report will guide further actions to ensure the NASC’s permanent site is completed without further delay.
