NO YOUTH LEFT BEHIND! Ayodele Olawande (Honourable Minister for Youth Development)

NO YOUTH LEFT BEHIND!

...A New Era of Sustainable Mobility

Today, we converged at the Eagle Square to launch the Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative for young people in the informal sector, especially those powering our transportation economy every single day.

What we witnessed today is more than an event. It is renewal, a bold statement that young people in Nigeria, whether formal or informal, will not be left out of our nation’s economic transformation.

Today’s launch marks a turning point, an intentional effort to correct the long-standing imbalance where empowerment focused only on the formal youth population.

With the clear mandate of inclusion given to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR;  we are ensuring that every category of youth is carried along in our programmes.

This intervention will support young transporters, mechanics, technicians, and everyday ‘hustlers’, who all deserve dignity, opportunity, and sustainable income.

As I noted in my remarks at the launch, the Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative delivers solutions on three fronts:

Job creation for riders, mechanics, technicians, and charging-station operators.

Higher earnings through zero petrol costs and more money in the pockets of young operators.

Reduced carbon emissions, aligning Nigeria with the global transition to EVs and a cleaner environment.

The world is moving to electric vehicles, and Nigeria’s youth must not be left behind. In fact, today, we placed them firmly in the driver’s seat of the future.

What we have done is not merely to distribute tricycles, but to establish a transparent and sustainable empowerment model that helps young people build wealth, own businesses, secure long-term livelihoods, and contribute to a greener nation.

While I encourage all young people, especially those in the transportation sector, to key into this initiative; my profound appreciation goes to Dr. Israel Olajumoke, Chief Executive Officer of House of Destiny, for the partnership that made this impactful intervention possible.
