TOXIC TENTACLES: THE DRUG ABUSE EPIDEMIC SWEEPING NIGERIA'S YOUTH

 "A nation that neglects its youth is a nation that neglects its future." This haunting quote underscores the urgent need for collective action to address the scourge of substance abuse that is ravaging the lives of countless Nigerian youths.


The devastating effects of drug abuse have become a pressing concern, demanding the attention of parents, churches, community leaders, and the government.


The lives of young people are being ravaged by the allure of hard drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and prescription opioids.


These toxic tentacles are wreaking havoc on their lives, leading to addiction, mental health issues, physical health problems, social and economic woes, and a general breakdown of society.


The facts are stark: youths are increasingly falling prey to the siren song of substance abuse, with dire consequences. As the African proverb goes, "When the music changes, the dance also changes."


If we don't address the issue of drug abuse, our society will continue to suffer the consequences. The rot has set in, and it's time for us to sound the alarm and take drastic action.


The call to action is clear: it's time for parents, churches, schools, community leaders, and the government to wake up to the clarion call and address this menace.


We must work together to educate youths about the dangers of drug abuse, provide support and counseling for those struggling with addiction, implement policies and programs to prevent drug abuse, and encourage community involvement and social support.


As the Nigerian adage goes, "A stitch in time saves nine." Let's take immediate action to address the issue of drug abuse and secure a brighter future for our youths.


The future belongs to those who prepare for it today, and it's time for us to rise to the challenge and combat the scourge of substance abuse.
