Lagos State Legislators: From Public Servants to Property Moguls

Rejoinder: "Lagos Legislators Passed a Budget to Buy Houses for Themselves in Abuja, FCT"

It is now evident that members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have turned their legislative duties into a personal wealth-creation scheme, using public funds to build private empires rather than serve the citizens who elected them.

2026 budget allocations:

- ₦6.2 billion to purchase houses for 40 legislators in Abuja,

- ₦4.5 billion for generators to power those houses,

- ₦20 billion for pool cars for the same 40 members.

These figures follow ₦30 billion spent on vehicles last year and ₦15 billion the year before, bringing the three-year total to ₦65 billion on cars for a handful of elites.

Meanwhile, Lagosians endure:

- Broken streetlights,

- Widespread open defecation,

- A chaotic transportation system that endangers lives,

- Sky-rocketing house rents.

The government possesses the capacity to deliver essential social amenities, yet its priorities lie elsewhere. Citizens who question these expenditures risk being silenced under cyber-bullying laws.

We demand answers:

1. Why do Lagos legislators need property in Abuja?

2. How does this serve their oversight functions?

3. Where is the accountability for these lavish expenditures while basic services collapse?

✊🏽 It’s time to hold them accountable. Lagosians demand change with immediate effect.
