FROM PUPIL TO PROVIDER, REAR ADMIRAL GE KWETISHE TRANSFORMS HIS CHILDHOOD SCHOOL IN TARABA (KWAMBAI)

In KWAMBAI earlier this morning, TARABA STATE — The dust of Kwambai was stirred not by the harmattan winds today, January 23rd, 2026, but by the rhythmic stomping of cultural dancers and the celebratory cheers of a community witnessing a full-circle moment of transformation.

Rear Admiral Godfrey Enoch Kwetishe returned to the very classrooms where he first learned to read and write, not as a student, but as a benefactor to commission a state-of-the-art remodeling of Kwambai Primary School.

The project, a flagship of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, represents more than just structural renovation; it is a high-profile bridge between the Nigerian Navy and the civilian heartland of Taraba State.

The atmosphere was electric as leaders, both from state and federal level, youths, women, traditional leaders, and high-ranking military officers gathered to witness the unveiling.

The atmosphere was electric with the rhythms of traditional dancers and the cheers of a community that saw their future being built in real-time.

Addressing the crowd as the Chief Host, Rear Admiral Kwetishe delivered an emotional welcome address, noting that the project was about more than just bricks and mortar.

For the chief host, Rear Admiral Kwetishe, the project was deeply personal.

"I stand before you with a bundle of gratitude and joy," the Admiral remarked during his welcome address. "I attended this school in my early days. I am deeply aware of the basic necessities this community has faced.

Today, we are not just commissioning a building; we are opening a future for our children; "we are not only here to commission a project; we are here to open the doors of the future for our children,” Kwetishe said.

Kwetishe emphasized that the project was born out of a desire to provide "dignity" to the local educational system.

However, Rear Admiral GE Kwetishe concluded his speech with a firm charge to his kinsmen: "The ownership must be in our hands. We must protect this gift from vandalism and misuse so it can serve generations to come."

Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, was Rear Admiral JN Mamman, who highlighted the broader strategic importance of the project.

He noted that the initiative is part of the Nigerian Navy "Civil-Military Cooperation" (CIMIC) mandate, aimed at winning hearts and minds through community development.

"Beyond physically securing lives and property, our officers are committed to serving the interests of Nigerians through humanitarian avenues," Admiral Mamman stated.

Mamman praised the project as a "watershed moment" in the Navy history of community engagement, noting that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope agenda.

The event was graced by the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, represented by Rt. Hon. Mark Bako Useni, PhD. The presence of state leadership underscored the collaborative effort between the federal military arm and the state government to uplift rural education.

The newly commissioned block includes:

Three state-of-the-art classrooms

Administrative offices and storage units

Modern toilet facilities

Brand new furniture for students and teachers.

The CNS address closed with a poignant tribute to Rear Admiral Kwetishe character, quoting Maya Angelou and Robin Sharma on the enduring power of kindness. "If you deliver kindness, it stays forever," Mamman remarked, saluting Kwetishe decision to bring this intervention to his birthplace.

As the ribbon was cut and the doors swung open, the joy on the faces of the Kwambai children suggested that for this community, the "historic making event" is more than just a new building—it is a promise that their future is bright, secured, and supported by the nation finest.

Once again, Congratulations to Kwambai Community 🫶🌷
