LEGAL MILESTONE, BARR. EDINGAH Galumje, Mni, RECOMMENDED FOR FEDERAL HIGH COURT BENCH

In a significant stride for the Nigerian judiciary, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has officially recommended Edingah Galumje, mni, for appointment as a Judge of the Federal High Court.

The decision was formalized during the Council 110th Meeting, held on January 13 and 14, 2026, under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON.

Barr. Galumje, an esteemed member of the National Institute (mni) and a seasoned administrator who has served as a Deputy Chief Registrar within the Federal High Court system, stands out as a key candidate in this latest judicial recruitment cycle aimed at strengthening the bench.

The recommendation follows a rigorous and transparent vetting process designed to ensure that only the most qualified legal minds ascend to the federal bench.

While the initial resolution was reached mid-January, the NJC exercised strategic patience, awaiting the conclusion of comprehensive security assessments to guarantee the integrity of the nominees.

Today, Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Council confirmed that the security reports returned no adverse comments on any of the candidates, including Mr. Galumje, thereby clearing the path for their names to be formally transmitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for final approval and appointment.

For Barr. Galumje, this elevation represents a transition from high-level judicial administration to the core of adjudicatory responsibility.

Galumje is part of a 14-man list of successful candidates that includes prominent legal figures such as the current Chief Registrar, Suleiman Amida Hassan, and others like Muhammad Barau Saidu and Chinelo Conchita Igboko.

As the legal community awaits the presidential assent, Galumje inclusion is being hailed as a testament to his years of dedicated service and his status as a distinguished alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), bringing a wealth of policy-driven insight to the Federal High Court.
