Akure Youth Stakeholders Meeting: Hon. Gbenga Fasua Pledged Action on Key Resolutions

HON. FASUA HOLDS AKURE YOUTH STAKEHOLDERS MEETING AND VOWS TO ACT ON RESOLUTIONS FOR YOUTH BENEFIT

The inaugural Akure Youth Stakeholders Meeting took place at the Conference Hall of the Executive Chairman, Akure South Local Government, with youth leaders, stakeholders, community members, political figures, and concerned citizens in attendance.


The event began with an opening prayer led by Comrade Adewale Adedokun, followed by introductions of stakeholders and local government officials. Attendees were warmly welcomed to what was described as the first gathering of its kind, focused on shaping the future of Akure youths and promoting development collaboration.


In his opening speech, Hon. Dr Fasua Gbenga Timothy, the Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, expressed his gratitude to everyone present.


He shared his passion for Akure’s development and posed key questions: "What is the current state of Akure? Where have we been, and where are we headed?" He highlighted the importance of unity among Akure indigenes and mutual support, just as other communities and residents of the local government have historically done for progress.


He noted that meaningful change starts somewhere, which is why this stakeholders' meeting was organised. He called for urgent positive actions in Akure and urged participants to share ideas for the town’s advancement.


The Chairman also highlighted achievements under his administration, thanking Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa for supporting Akure with new projects that foster community development.


Projects mentioned included: Operation Light Up Our Market, the deployment of tricycles for waste management, free dental care, surgeries, and medical procedures for residents, the Operation Back to School initiative spanning from primary to secondary education, bursary for tertiary students, the ongoing Mega Complex project at Mojere Market, Ilesha Garage, and other community development programs.


He emphasised that the main purpose of the meeting was to explore practical ways to engage Akure youths and create opportunities for empowerment, innovation, and technical development, with a focus on preparing the younger generation for future leadership roles.


During the interactive session, stakeholders praised the Chairman and shared ideas on advancing Akure.


Comrade Ogundipe Seyi congratulated the Chairman for launching Operation Tiger Base, a joint security task force aimed at improving security. He also suggested a greater focus on agriculture to empower youths and stimulate economic growth.


Comrade Adewale Adedokun commended the Chairman for his support for the elderly and noted that history would remember him for listening to the people. He also advised the need for thorough background checks before empowering individuals.


Mr Olushola recommended creating a comprehensive database of those seeking employment and empowerment to promote transparency and facilitate planning.


Mr Michael Adeyeye, Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure Kingdom, praised the Chairman for thinking ahead and working towards a sustainable future for Akure, free from political bias. He urged the Chairman to engage Akure indigenes and international investors in youth empowerment initiatives. He suggested creating an Akure Trust Fund and forming a committee to coordinate community support and development efforts. Additionally, he emphasised the need to strengthen measures against youth drug abuse, highlighting it as an increasingly societal issue.


Honourable Kolawole highlighted the need for Akure South Local Government to focus on technology and innovation. He recommended establishing a technology and skill acquisition centre to provide modern training and digital skills for youths. He also proposed profiling successful Akure natives worldwide to promote networking and support.


Honourable Adeolu advised the Chairman to boost investment in youth talent discovery, noting that many talented individuals from Akure have risen in recent years. He suggested organising youth competitions and talent programs to nurture future stars.


Honourable Oluyi Akintayo, former SSA on Technical Education to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stated that the Local Government cannot reach its goals alone. He urged the Chairman to work closely with the Deji of Akure’s palace and stressed the importance of synergy with traditional institutions. He also called for establishing a strong force to ensure traditional rulers and community leaders are involved in development efforts.


In his closing remarks, the Chairman thanked all participants and expressed pride in the ideas and contributions shared during the meeting. He assured everyone that the Deji of Akure was fully informed about the initiatives and development plans discussed.


The Chairman reaffirmed that the main aim of the meeting was to build a better Akure for current and future generations. Participants agreed to immediate collaboration and continued engagement among stakeholders.


Further talks focused on establishing the proposed Akure Trust Fund, with everyone agreeing that contributions and donations should begin immediately to support community development and youth projects. Donations were launched by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and other attendees.


He concluded by thanking all stakeholders for their participation and dedication, promising more developmental projects and inclusive governance to enhance residents’ quality of life.
