Empowering Widows for Sustainable Development: Ondo State’s 2026 International Widows Day Focuses on Inclusion, Protection & Economic Independence



2026 International Widows Day with the Theme, Empowering Widows For Sustainable development:Ensuring Inclusion, Protection and Economic Independence:  Last Year ,  we  Flagged  Off The  Odatiwa Widows Care (Training and Empowerment Of Ondo State Widows), An Initiative Of His Excellency Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, The Governor of Ondo State to commemorate  the 2025 International Widows Day with the Theme " Empowering Widows: Building Resilience and Restoring Dignity" at the  Babafunke Ajasin Hall, Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Alagbaka, Akure. There was Basic Training  on Making of Adire Clothes, Cleaning Agents(Soap & Izal), Confectionery( Cake, Meat Pie, Egg Roll, Chin-Chin, Plaintain Chips), Branding and Packaging.  1,000 Widows were in attendance and transport stipend provided for them and After the Trainning, 400 Widows were  empowered with 50k grant  each.




The International Widows DAY'S Commemoration is to celebrate the most vulnerable among us, Women who as a result of the death of their spouses who are  facing  extreme poverty and hardship by encouraging them with  self sustainable skills to further  build their resilience and restore their dignity. Last year was glorious. This year International Widows Day will be another plartform to engage and empower the  widows!
