Youth Minister, Olawande Highlights Collaborative Strategies for Youth Skills and Jobs in Nigeria at World Bank Forum



Yesterday, the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Honourable Ayodele Olawande, delivered the keynote address at the World Bank Group Africa West (AFW) Youth Forum in Abuja.

He joined development partners, stakeholders, and young leaders to discuss practical pathways for youth empowerment, skills development, entrepreneurship, and job creation.


Minister Olawande highlighted that Nigeria is a young nation, with the majority of its population under the age of 35—a reality that presents both a challenge and a significant opportunity. He stressed that the future of Nigeria’s economy depends on how well the country invests in, supports, and empowers its youth today.



The Minister reiterated the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to creating opportunities that equip young Nigerians with the skills, resources, and confidence needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. He pointed to initiatives such as the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), digital skills programmes, entrepreneurship support, and strategic partnerships as key mechanisms for connecting youth to opportunities in technology, agriculture, the creative economy, manufacturing, sports, and other growth sectors.


Minister Olawande also emphasized that government cannot act alone. Sustainable youth development, he noted, requires strong collaboration between government, development partners, the private sector, and civil society. Through such partnerships, access to skills can be expanded, jobs created, and the immense potential of Nigeria’s youth population unlocked.


He commended the World Bank Group for providing an important platform for dialogue and action. In closing, he encouraged every young Nigerian to continue learning, innovating, and believing in their potential to contribute to the prosperity and development of the nation.
