Gov Aiyedatiwa Administration Set to Launch Ibi Irorun Initiative (Safe delivery Sensitisation and distribution of 1,000  Pregnancy kits to Pregnant Women in Ondo State




The Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is set to launch the Ibi Irorun Initiative, a maternal health intervention aimed at promoting safe delivery and reducing the financial burden of childbirth on pregnant women and their families across the state.


The initiative, tagged “Ease and Safe Delivery for Pregnant Women in Ondo State,” will commence with the distribution of 1,000 free Ibi Irorun Safe Delivery Kits to pregnant women in the first phase.


The programme, implemented by the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development under the leadership of Commissioner Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye, is part of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s deliberate efforts to strengthen support for women, improve maternal welfare, and ensure that government interventions reach vulnerable women at the grassroots.


Speaking ahead of the launch, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development said the first phase will kick off at Arakale Primary Health Care Centre in Akure on Monday at 9 a.m.


Dr Osamaye said each kit contains essential hospital delivery items, including mother's sanitary pads, chlorhexidine gel for the baby's umbilical cord, towel, cotton wool, cord clamp, Mackintosh, gloves, bathing soap, Goya oil, Detergent, tissues, baby  pampers and  yards  of Ankara material for wrapping the baby.


She expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa and the First Lady for their support, as well as the relevant health agencies and stakeholders for their collaboration, stressing that improving maternal health requires a collective effort.


Dr Osamaye commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his commitment to the welfare of women and families in Ondo State, describing the initiative as another demonstration of his administration’s people-centred governance.


Dr Osamaye also appreciated the First Lady of Ondo State, Mrs Esther Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for her support and advocacy for initiatives that promote the wellbeing of women, mothers and children across the state.


She said the Ibi Irorun Initiative will also be done subsequently in other PHCS  across the state to distribute the 1000 kits approved by the governor.


According to her, maternal health remains a critical component of public health, as the wellbeing of a woman during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period has a direct impact on both maternal and newborn survival.


The Commissioner explained that the initiative would focus on sensitisation, enlightenment and empowerment of pregnant women.


Dr Osamaye said the component of the program would include radio and television jingles, news talks and community-based advocacy, with traditional institutions, including Obas and Baales, Iyalojas, Local Government Women Leaders and healthcare units, expected to support the grassroots mobilisation.


Dr Osamaye further appreciated the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Ministry of Health and the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission for their collaboration and commitment towards strengthening maternal healthcare services in the state.


She noted that the partnership would enhance the reach and effectiveness of the initiative while encouraging pregnant women to make use of primary healthcare facilities, attend antenatal clinics and access available maternal health services.


The Ministry stressed that the kits are strictly free and not for sale, urging beneficiaries and members of the public to report any attempt to commercialise the items.
