Minister Olawande Hails Gov Kefas' N500m Grant for Youth Empowerment Programme

Youth Minister Olawande Commends Taraba State Government on Youth Empowerment Strides




The Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, was pleased to join the Government and young people of Taraba State in Jalingo for the Taraba State Youth Empowerment Programme and the unveiling of the Taraba State Youth Development Roadmap 2026–2031 and Long-Term Youth Agenda 2050.



The Minister particularly commended the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his commitment to youth development and for backing that commitment with concrete action, including the ₦500 million soft grant for young people.


He equally appreciated the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Gara Soyongha Nongha, and the management of the Taraba State Youth Development Agency for their hard work and leadership in translating the Governor’s vision into action.


The Honourable Minister was also honoured to receive an award from the Future-Ready Youth Initiative, founded by Deborah John, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, in recognition of his contributions to youth development. He also had the privilege of unveiling a book of the same title, “Future Ready,” for which he wrote the foreword.


According to the Minister, the intervention in Taraba complements what the Federal Ministry of Youth Development is doing through NiYA StartUp, in supporting young Nigerians to build businesses, create jobs and solve problems. He noted that the Federal Government cannot reach every young person alone and needs states, the private sector and other partners working alongside it. He stressed that if more states make deliberate investments like Taraba, Nigeria can reach more young people, grow more businesses and turn its large youth population into a true national advantage.


While in Jalingo, the Honourable Minister also visited the NYSC Orientation Camp, where he engaged with corps members undergoing the mandatory three-week orientation course. He encouraged them to see the service year not merely as an obligation, but as an opportunity for service, personal growth and preparation for life beyond the NYSC, adding that youth development must ultimately be about creating opportunities today while preparing young people for tomorrow.
