Youth Minister Olawande Rallies Ministry Staff: Every Memo Must Count for Nigerian Youth

Youth Minister Olawande Rallies Ministry Staff: Every Memo Must Count for Nigerian Youth

Today, the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, joined the management and senior staff of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development at its Management Retreat to assess the Ministry's work, identify areas for improvement and agree on the way forward.

The Honourable Minister reminded the team that every action of the Ministry must answer one fundamental question: what difference is it making in the lives of Nigerian youth? He noted that success should not be measured by the number of programmes organised, meetings held or agreements signed, but by the number of young people whose lives are improved through skills, jobs, funding, business opportunities and other interventions provided by the Ministry.

The retreat also examined how to make the Ministry more effective by strengthening coordination, connecting planning and budgeting with action, removing unnecessary delays and taking responsibility for results. Hon. Olawande stressed that the retreat must produce more than conversations; it must lead to clear priorities, responsibilities, timelines and measurable outcomes.

He subsequently met with the junior staff of the Ministry, not only to address them but, more importantly, to listen to them. He emphasized that their experiences, ideas and concerns matter, because no Ministry can function effectively when only those at the top feel involved. Every member of staff, he said, must understand that they have a stake in the Ministry's success and a role to play in fulfilling its mandate.

From management to the most junior member of staff, the Minister stated that they are one team with one responsibility: to serve Nigerian youth. He expressed his commitment to building a Ministry that listens, responds, works together and takes responsibility; one where every member of staff understands that behind every memo, decision, programme and partnership are young Nigerians expecting delivery.

He concluded that if the Ministry keeps young people at the centre of its work and remains focused on results, it will continue to turn its mandate into meaningful opportunities and better outcomes for the young people of the country.
