ADEGBONMIRE MOURNS PA FASORANTI, SAYS AKURE KINGDOM HAS LOST ITS FOREMOST ELDER

The Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, has described the passing of the National Leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as a great loss to Akure Kingdom, Ondo State and the entire nation.

Pa Fasoranti died on Tuesday at the age of 100.

In a condolence message, the senator commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, and the people of Akure Kingdom, the government and people of Ondo State, as well as the leadership and members of Afenifere.

"Akure has lost its father and its conscience," Senator Adegbonmire said. "Pa Fasoranti was a proud son of this ancient kingdom who carried its name with honour to every corner of this country. For a hundred years, he showed us that a man can be powerful without being proud, and principled without being bitter. His home was open to all, and his counsel was sought by leaders of every generation."

The senator recalled that the late elder statesman served the people first as an educationist, raising generations of disciplined young men and women, and later as Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State under the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin between 1979 and 1983. He noted that Pa Fasoranti was among the patriots whose efforts culminated in the creation of Ondo State in 1976.

"As a lawmaker, I draw lessons from his lifelong devotion to justice and the rights of the ordinary citizen," the senator said. "The values he upheld are values our nation must continue to defend if we truly wish to honour his memory."

Senator Adegbonmire prayed God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest, and to give the Fasoranti family, Kabiyesi the Deji of Akure, the people of Akure Kingdom, the government and people of Ondo State, and all who mourn him the strength to bear the loss.
