Why Adegbonmire Seeks Immortalisation of Pa Fasoranti — Foluso Fasan, Akure

Why Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, Is Championing the Immortalisation of Pa Reuben Fasoranti

A nation that desires progress must learn to honour its heroes, both in life and in death. It is in this spirit that the Distinguished Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Senator Adeniyi Ayodele Adegbonmire, SAN, has sponsored a motion on the floor of the Red Chamber seeking the immortalisation of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR.

The motion, which has generated widespread positive reactions across Yorubaland and beyond, is more than mere legislative business. It is a profound statement of values.

Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, was a man whose life remains a textbook of selfless service. Born on May 11, 1926, in Akure, he rose from humble beginnings to become one of Nigeria's most respected educationists, administrators, and statesmen.

A foremost educationist, he was the founder of Omolere Nursery and Primary School and Akure High School, institutions where he trained generations of Nigerians.

He served meritoriously as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State and later rose to become the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere.

Until his demise at the age of 99, Pa Fasoranti remained a moral compass — consistent, principled, and fearless in his defence of truth, justice, true federalism, and Yoruba interests within a united Nigeria.

Senator Adegbonmire's push is anchored on four key pillars:

1. Recognition of a Life of Selfless Service: To formally acknowledge over seven decades of contribution to education, public service, and nation-building.

2. Preservation of History and Values: To ensure that the virtues Pa Fasoranti embodied — integrity, courage, and principled leadership are preserved for posterity.

3. Honouring a Legend: To accord a befitting national honour to a man who gave his all for his people and his country.

4. A Lesson for the Younger Generation: To provide a worthy role model for young Nigerians on the essence of service and patriotism.

For Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, a distinguished legal luminary and proud son of Akure, this motion is both personal and patriotic. As the Senator from the same senatorial district where Pa Fasoranti hailed from, he understands the immense weight of Baba's legacy.

By taking this cause to the floor of the Senate, Senator Adegbonmire has demonstrated what quality representation truly means — projecting the values and heroes of his constituents onto the national stage.

The call for the immortalisation of Pa Reuben Fasoranti is one that all well-meaning Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, should support. Pa Fasoranti has earned his place in history.

I commend Distinguished Senator Adeniyi Ayodele Adegbonmire, SAN, for this bold and thoughtful initiative. In honouring Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, we honour ourselves.
