DR. SAVIOUR ENYIEKERE UNVEILS A FAR REACHING VISION FOR 6TH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SERVICE COMMISSION

In a significant step toward shaping the future of Nigeria’s legislative support system, the newly inaugurated 6th National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has launched a weeklong induction and retreat programme in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.


The event, designed to chart a strategic roadmap for the Commission’s activities over the next five years, marks a pivotal moment for the body responsible for providing efficient manpower resources to the National Assembly.


Leading the charge, Executive Chairman Chief Dr. Saviour Enyiekere outlined a a far reaching vision, emphasizing a transformative agenda to enhance the Commission’s role in supporting democratic governance. The retreat, facilitated by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), was declared open by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service.


Dr. Enyiekere, in his welcome address, unveiled the policy thrust of the 6th Commission, centered on fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and public trust.


He highlighted key priorities, including professional development, employee welfare, accountability, transparency, and dynamism, while also committing to eliminating staff stagnation and advancing the digitization of the Commission’s operations.


These ideals, he emphasized, are critical to strengthening the NASC’s role as the backbone of the National Assembly, ensuring it remains a robust and forward-facing institution.


The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elder Udeme James Otong, underscored the Commission’s strategic importance, describing it as the “engine room” for providing effective manpower for law-making, urging the new leadership to build a lasting legacy.


The induction programme has garnered significant attention for its potential to redefine the operational framework of the National Assembly.


Senator Fasuyi, representing Senate President Akpabio, described the Commissioners as “stewards of a sacred trust” tasked with sustaining the legislative arm’s stability and strength. 


The retreat’s focus on stakeholder collaboration and innovative reforms signals a proactive approach to addressing the complexities of Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.


As the 6th NASC embarks on this ambitious journey, Dr. Enyiekere’s leadership and the Commission’s commitment to excellence are poised to enhance the efficiency and credibility of Nigeria’s legislative processes, setting a high standard for public service.
