YOUTH MINISTER REAFFIRMS NIGERIA'S COMMITMENT TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AT UNGA 80

GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS: NIGERIA'S PATHWAY TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH

Yesterday in New York, at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Hon. Ayodele Olawande the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, joined world leaders to mark the 30th Anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth.

Delivering a message on behalf of Nigeria, he emphasized what the event meant to us – a commitment to our young people who are our nation’s greatest strength, the foundation of our present and the builders of our future.

From education to digital skills; entrepreneurship and healthcare; peacebuilding and political participation; Nigeria continues to invest in creating platforms and opportunities for youth to thrive. Initiatives such as the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), Nigeria Youth Investment Fund, the “Not Too Young to Run” Act, and the 3MTT (Three Million Technical Talent) programme offer opportunities for young Nigerians in skills development, entrepreneurship support, digital innovation, and political empowerment.

The Youth, Peace & Security National Action Plan, especially, is transforming youth into partners for sustainable peace.

As he reiterated in his remarks, it is right that we celebrate the milestone we have recorded with the World Programme of Action on Youth.

But we must also renew our commitment to expand opportunities across all the 15 focus areas of the Programme.

Nigeria stands ready to work with the UN, Member States, civil society, and the private sector to ensure the coming years deliver even greater progress in youth empowerment and development.
