CHRISTIANS URGED TO GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS






Abuja - Former Senator Dr. Emmanuel Bwacha has called on Christian leaders and members to actively participate in politics and governance, stressing that Christians cannot afford to stand on the sidelines and expect righteousness to prevail.


Dr. Bwacha made this statement during a public lecture and book launch titled "Faith and Governance: The Intersection between Christian and Secular Politics," authored by Mr. Adison Adi and Julie's Oni in Abuja.


According to Dr. Bwacha, God's original plan was for His children to manage and govern the earth in line with divine principles. He cited the examples of priests, prophets, and kings in the Old Testament who were God's chosen vessels to ensure righteous governance.


The former Senator emphasized that only righteousness can exalt a nation and that ungodly rulers inevitably make laws that bring frustration and sorrow to the people.


In his opening remarks, the book's author and founder of Ace Edit Services Mr. Adison Adi, stressed the need for Christians to fully engage in politics, driven by servant leadership and integrity. He debunked the notion that faith and politics are enemies or that Christians should withdraw from governance, saying that public service is a sacred trust and stewardship under God.


"The core principles of faith dictate that governance is not about power, but about upholding justice and truth," Mr. Adi said. "Politics is not inherently evil; it becomes what the players make it, good or bad. Therefore, we cannot stand on the sidelines and expect righteousness to prevail."


Book reviewer Prof. Aigbedion Marvellous echoed similar sentiments, stating that economic development is tied to political decisions. He urged Christians to get involved in politics to be part of decision-making and shape the future.


"When we are part of the decision-makers, some of our prayers will be answered," Prof. Marvellous said. "We should emulate biblical figures like Joseph and Daniel who were involved in decision-making and changed their generation."


The event brought together representatives Economic and Financial crime Commission (EFCC),  Independent corrupt practices a nd other related offences Commission (ICPC), prominent academia,  Nigeria top politicians, and philanthropists to discuss the intersection of faith and governance.
