2027: My Record Will Earn Me Re-election, Says Adegbonmire

The lawmaker representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, has expressed confidence that his performance in office will earn him the support of his constituents in the 2027 elections.

Adegbonmire said his achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, empowerment and lawmaking had placed him in a strong position to seek re-election.

The senator stated this during an interview with Adaba FM, an Akure-based radio station.

He said he had, within three years in office, facilitated several projects and interventions across Ondo Central, despite challenges associated with funding and the release of capital funds.

“With all sense of responsibility, I've done well for my people in the space of three years,” Adegbonmire said.

He explained that many of the projects he facilitated were achieved through his efforts to maximise his influence in 2024, adding that the absence of capital releases in 2025 affected the execution of some projects.

According to him, one of his major interventions is the over N800m project at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, which he described as the biggest intervention project in Ondo State.

He also listed interventions at St. Helens in Ondo and Ofosu, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of primary schools in Akure South, among his achievements.

The senator said work would soon commence on another primary school project in Igbara-Oke, while another location had been identified in Ijare.

On healthcare, Adegbonmire said he had facilitated a project at Ibule and was set to commence the construction of a 20-bed maternity hospital along the road leading to Oda.

He also cited the provision of solar-powered streetlights, boreholes and scholarships as part of his interventions in the district.

“I don't want to talk about solar lights or boreholes or scholarships. I've lost count of the people I've given scholarships to because I'm a man that cherishes education,” he said.

Adegbonmire added that he had supported several constituents with funds and equipment to establish businesses and become economically independent.

He recalled that his empowerment programme included the distribution of more than 50 tricycles, over 100 motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, wheelchairs, generators and cash grants.

According to him, the intervention was aimed at improving the living conditions of his constituents and helping them become self-reliant.

The senator also pointed to his legislative responsibilities, stressing that his roles in the National Assembly demonstrated the confidence reposed in him by the leadership of the institution.

Adegbonmire, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, said he had also chaired the ad hoc committee that reviewed the Electoral Act and served as a member of the National Assembly's Constitution Review Committee.

He further disclosed that he is the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria-Cameroon Border Dispute Committee.

He said his responsibilities extended to sponsoring and supporting bills, which he described as his core mandate as a legislator.

“Before I can be given such sensitive responsibilities, it must be that the leadership of the National Assembly has implicit confidence in my ability to deliver on my core mandate,” he said.

Adegbonmire urged constituents to assess his performance based on his record, rather than rhetoric, expressing confidence that the people of Ondo Central would support his return to the Senate in 2027.

“Why will my people want to throw that away? Let's look at the scorecard. It is there, black and white.

“So, my view is that if we are to go by that, I believe my people will vote for me so that I can continue the good work,” he said.
