Sen. Dandutse Leads NASS Oversight to FUT Daura, Pledges More Support for Tertiary Education

SENATOR DANDUTSE LEADS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OVERSIGHT TEAM TO FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TRANSPORTATION, DAURA, VOWS STRONGER SUPPORT FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION 



In a significant demonstration of legislative commitment to advancing Nigeria tertiary education sector, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Most Distinguished Senator Muhammad Muntari Dandutse, today Sunday, September 6, 2026, led a high-powered National Assembly delegation on an oversight visit to the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Katsina State.


The team, which included Senators Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, senator Ahmad Abdulhamid Malam Madori, Senator Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha, Senator Anthony, senator Diket Plang Satso, Senator Pam, Francis, Chukwu, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and senator Babangida Hussaini, was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, alongside the institution entire leadership.


During the engagement, the Vice-Chancellor conducted the lawmakers around TETFund-funded facilities, underscored the urgent need for capacity building, and affirmed the readiness of the Northwest to partner effectively with the National Assembly.


The VC specifically appealed to Senator Dandutse to leverage his position to secure greater support for the university.


Speaking on behalf of the delegation, most distinguished Senator Dandutse expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and lauded the Vice-Chancellor for his hard work and resilience. 


SENATOR DANDUTSE emphasised that the visit was aimed at identifying practical ways to move the university forward, stressing that education remains the key to national success and that continuous investment in the sector is non-negotiable.


The Senator highlighted the expanded scope of TETFund under the new Act, which now benefits cybersecurity and other agencies, and pledged collaborative efforts to deliver value additions. 


He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the NELFUND student loan scheme, urging the university to maximise opportunities within the educational sector.


In response, the Vice-Chancellor formally presented two key documents—the NELFUND CBN account details and a comprehensive report on all ongoing and completed projects—to the Committee Chairman, marking a transparent handover of institutional records.


Following the university engagement, Senator Dandutse and the Vice-Chancellor led the distinguished senators on a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, CON, the Emir of Daura.


The purpose was to brief the traditional ruler on TETFund activities and to seek his fatherly blessings.


Senator Dandutse, speaking for the team, conveyed their gratitude for the warm welcome and outlined the objectives of the oversight mission.


In his remarks, the Emir appreciated the lawmakers for their unwavering service to the nation, urged them to continue working for unity, harmony and progress, and reminded them to fear God while serving the country and the poor masses.


He stressed that Nigeria is the only country they have and called for sustained investment in its peace and development, while invoking divine blessings upon the senators as they carry out their national duties.
